Introduction
In a world where addiction and mental health challenges often carry heavy stigma, the Invitation to Change (ITC) Approach is redefining how communities respond to those in need. Through empathy, connection, and skill-building, Your Ally Foundation (YAF) continues to champion a new culture of understanding and support across Africa.
Building a Movement of Change
In partnership with CMC: Foundation for Change, YAF successfully hosted a five-day Train-a-Trainer (ToT) program at Serena Hotel, Kampala, in April 2025. The event brought together 84 trainers from Zambia, Kenya, and Uganda—leaders who will now extend ITC training to their own communities.
The ITC program goes beyond traditional therapy; it empowers participants to:
- Foster compassionate communication between families and caregivers
- Reduce judgment toward people struggling with substance use
- Equip communities with the tools to build trust and healing environments
Breaking Stigma, Strengthening Bonds
For many caregivers, supporting a loved one through addiction can feel isolating. The ITC model changes that narrative. By merging psychological insight with cultural sensitivity, it gives caregivers practical strategies while reinforcing the idea that change begins with understanding.
Looking Ahead
Your Ally Foundation is expanding its reach by launching localized ITC programs in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and other parts of Africa. These initiatives aim to empower more families, social workers, and educators to become catalysts for positive transformation.
“When communities learn to listen with empathy, recovery becomes a collective effort — not an individual struggle.”
